Portable apologizes to EFCC, vows to stop spraying money around
Nigerian musician and Zeh Nation leader, Portable, has publicly appealed for forgiveness from the government and the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) due to his practice of showering money on his fans.
The street performer participated in a live discussion on Tuesday, April 16, 2024, where he expressed concerns about the potential repercussions of his actions and announced adjustments to his approach to financial generosity.
Acknowledging his past behavior of handing out substantial amounts of cash to his followers, particularly nearly N2 million daily in cash showers, the Tony Montana hitmaker clarified that his intent was rooted in spreading kindness and aiding others.
However, in light of increased scrutiny and the recent six-month jail term given to popular crossdresser Okuneye Idris, aka Bobrisky, Portable appears to be adopting a more cautious stance. His apprehension about possible consequences has prompted him to apologize and seek forgiveness from authorities and the anti-corruption agency.
Portable reassured his fans that he would refrain from showering them with cash and encouraged them to establish bank accounts. Rather than directly distributing cash, he indicated his intention to make transfers to offer support to his followers.
“I never defaced the Naira, I’ve helped numerous people. After God, it’s the Government. Please pardon me if you have videos of me showering money. No more money showers,” Portable conveyed in his live discussion.
The artist’s decision to transition from cash giveaways to bank transfers signifies a new phase in his efforts to continue supporting his fans while sidestepping potential legal entanglements.
