Adekunle Gold explains why he braided his hair
Adekunle Kosoko, popularly known as Adekunle Gold, a prominent Nigerian singer, has clarified that his decision to braid his hair was not driven by branding motives but rather a desire for personal change and experimentation.
The artist, known for hits like ‘Party No Dey Stop,’ revealed that he opted for braided hair as a way to try out a new look. He openly discussed this during his appearance as a guest on MTV Base Africa’s show “Touching Base,” hosted by actress Susan Pwajok.
Adekunle Gold explained that in 2019, his hair was growing, and he decided to experiment with it. He wanted to explore a new side of his personal style by growing his hair and trying out different hairstyles. His choice of braided hair was not a deliberate branding strategy but rather a reflection of his evolving fashion and personal preferences.
He said, “There was no plan for it [my braided hairstyle] to be like a brand.
“In 2019, my hair was growing. Remember when I had that punk. And I was like, let me even try a new side of me. Let me even try to grow this hair and then make it. And I have really nice core pattern, whatever you guys called it. Core texture [laughs].
“But, yeah. I just decided to grow it and it looks good on me.”
