The Band 4 Band hitmaker revealed that he recently took his Shahada and officially embraced the Islamic faith.

He made the announcement during a livestream hosted by U.S. streamer PlaqueBoyMax, where the moment was met with cheers and congratulations from friends around him.

“I just changed my name and took my shahada, I am a Muslim now,” he said during the stream. He also disclosed that his new name is Akil.

Before this public declaration, Central Cee had never openly associated himself with any particular religion, making the announcement a notable moment for fans who have followed his journey closely.

Born on June 4, 1998, in London, Central Cee is the son of an English mother and a father of Guyanese and Chinese descent. After his parents separated when he was seven, he was raised by his mother alongside his two younger brothers in Shepherd’s Bush.

The rapper is also well known among Nigerian music fans, thanks to his collaboration with Asake on Wave, a track off Asake’s Lungu Boy album, which helped further expand his global reach.

Central Cee’s music journey began in 2014 when he appeared on the now-deleted Fire in the Streets series. His first official song appearance followed in January 2015 on the Ain’t On Nuttin Remix, where he featured alongside J Hus and other artists.

His breakthrough moment came on June 14, 2020, with the release of Day in the Life. Since then, Central Cee has steadily climbed the ranks to become one of the most prominent figures in the UK drill music scene.
