Stonebwoy, Sarkodie Trade Words Online Over Alleged Social Media Shots

Ghanaian music heavyweights Stonebwoy and Sarkodie have found themselves at the centre of an online disagreement after a series of exchanges exposed differing views about their relationship, private conversations, and expectations within the music industry.

What started around a social media message from Sarkodie has since developed into a broader conversation about loyalty, professional relationships, and whether both artistes have remained consistent with positions they previously discussed privately.

The latest episode began on September 7 when Sarkodie addressed members of his SarkNation fanbase, encouraging them to support his music without dragging other artists. He warned against fan wars and urged artists not to encourage supporters who attack their colleagues in the name of showing loyalty.

Stonebwoy later responded, questioning whether the message aligned with Sarkodie’s actions and the principles he claimed the rapper had previously discussed with him privately.

According to Stonebwoy, he reached out to Sarkodie after his Royal Albert Hall performance in the UK to congratulate him, with the conversation reportedly lasting more than 10 minutes.

Stonebwoy said the situation became complicated after his own performance at OVO Arena Wembley, when Sarkodie allegedly posted another video that he interpreted as an indirect message. He maintained that only Sarkodie could explain the real intention behind the post.

The Manodzi hitmaker said he eventually contacted Sarkodie after noticing what he described as a series of cryptic social media posts. That conversation, according to Stonebwoy, lasted for more than an hour and touched on industry relationships, personal interactions, and the different ways artists approach certain situations.

Stonebwoy claimed Sarkodie told him that artists could not be forced to follow particular principles and would sometimes make decisions based on what worked for them.

Using that alleged position to question Sarkodie’s public advice, Stonebwoy ended his response with a pointed statement:

“Without PRINCIPLE, advice is an OPINION.”

Sarkodie, however, pushed back strongly against Stonebwoy’s version of events.

In a lengthy response, the rapper denied ever telling Stonebwoy that artists should simply act according to whatever benefits them. He accused his colleague of presenting their private conversation in a way that did not accurately reflect what was discussed.

Sarkodie also rejected the suggestion that his social media posts were directed at Stonebwoy. He questioned why the singer had interpreted the posts as indirect shots and explained that he typically avoids engaging with assumptions based on social media activity.

According to Sarkodie, he only chose to respond publicly because Stonebwoy had directly raised the matter.

The rapper further clarified that his position during their private conversation was about personal choice.

He argued that while people have the right to decide whether to forgive someone or maintain a relationship, they cannot dictate how another person should handle the same situation.

Sarkodie also referenced Stonebwoy’s relationships with individuals who had previously disrespected him. He said he never interpreted Stonebwoy’s association with such people as an endorsement of their actions, stressing that the two artists could maintain mutual respect without necessarily sharing the same opinions or relationships.

He maintained that their shared objective should be finding opportunities to succeed together, even when they do not see eye to eye on everything.

Sarkodie also pointed to several instances where he said he had made efforts to maintain a positive relationship with Stonebwoy. These included inviting him to his Royal Albert Hall concert, congratulating him on career achievements, and discussing possible opportunities for them to perform together.

For Sarkodie, those gestures were evidence that there was no underlying hostility towards his colleague. He also expressed disappointment that an issue he believed could have remained private had eventually become a public conversation.

The exchange has once again put the relationship between two of Ghana’s biggest music stars under the spotlight, with fans and industry observers debating their contrasting views on loyalty, principle, professional relationships, and perceived disrespect.

For now, Stonebwoy maintains that his concerns are about consistency and principle, while Sarkodie insists that his words and social media activity have been misunderstood and were never intended as attacks on his colleague.

A lot to unpack here, but first things first there’s no need to say something I never said that artistes should play along so far as it benefits them.

The first thing I asked you when we got on that call, and I still want to ask, is “What is your problem?” If, for any reason,… https://t.co/G5ZsDYYj1p
