Chelsea have moved to secure Pedro Neto’s future at Stamford Bridge, with the Portugal international signing a new contract that will keep him at the club until 2032.
The winger has emerged as an increasingly important part of Chelsea’s plans since the arrival of manager Xabi Alonso, with his versatility and work rate making him a regular feature in the Blues’ evolving tactical setup.
Neto’s improved contract adds another year to his previous agreement, which was due to run until 2031. The new terms also represent a reward for the impact he has made since joining Chelsea from Wolverhampton Wanderers in 2024 for a reported £51.4 million.
Reacting to the extension, Neto spoke about his growing attachment to the club and his belief that there is still plenty more to accomplish in West London.
‘It’s an unbelievable moment for me and my family. I feel at home here. I feel like I want to achieve more things here. I’m really excited because I think we can achieve a lot of things together.’

The decision to extend Neto’s stay also fits into Chelsea’s wider strategy of rewarding key members of their squad with improved contracts. The club recently handed Joao Pedro a new deal, while captain Reece James and midfielder Moises Caicedo have also received fresh terms during the year.
Neto’s future had looked less certain during the most recent transfer window, when his performances reportedly attracted interest from other Premier League clubs, including Manchester City. However, the Portuguese remained at Chelsea and has since strengthened his position within the team.
A major factor behind his improved standing has been Alonso’s willingness to use Neto in a more flexible role. The Spaniard has deployed him in positions where his attacking ability can be combined with his willingness to track back and contribute defensively.
Speaking ahead of Chelsea’s clash with Hull City, Alonso highlighted the range of qualities Neto brings to his side.
‘For me, he is a winger. You can call him a winger or a wing-back because he has many qualities. He can play on the last line and he can defend on the first line, so he has the capacity to do many things. He is good in one-on-one situations, he is scoring goals and he has a fantastic work rate.’

Neto’s ability to cover ground and switch quickly between attacking and defensive duties has made him particularly suited to Alonso’s approach. The manager also revealed that he had been familiar with the player long before taking charge at Stamford Bridge.
‘I knew him well from watching many of Chelsea’s games. With him, you know that he is going to compete and you want those kinds of players in your team. I am very happy with Pedro and the work he is doing.’
With his long-term future now settled, Neto can focus fully on his role in Alonso’s Chelsea project as the club continues to build around a core of players viewed as important to its plans for the years ahead.
