The 2026 summer transfer window once again underlined just how much money continues to flow through European football, with clubs spending huge sums in their push to build stronger and more competitive squads.
While several teams across the continent made major moves, the Premier League once again dominated the spending charts. English clubs accounted for all five of the biggest spenders, led by Manchester City, whose summer investment surpassed the €500 million mark.
Chelsea, Tottenham Hotspur, Newcastle United and Aston Villa also crossed the €300 million threshold, highlighting the financial strength of English football ahead of the 2026/27 season.
Here are the five clubs that spent the most during the summer window:
1. Manchester City — €526.2 million
Manchester City emerged as the biggest spender of the summer after splashing approximately €526.2 million on new arrivals.
The club embarked on a significant rebuild following Pep Guardiola’s departure, with Enzo Fernández becoming the headline signing after joining from Chelsea for a British-record-equalling £125 million.
City also invested heavily in Elliot Anderson and several other additions as they look to reshape the squad and return to the top of domestic and European football.
2. Chelsea — €406.7 million
Chelsea maintained their reputation as one of Europe’s biggest spenders, committing around €406.7 million to new players during the window.
Their most expensive move was the reported £117 million acquisition of Morgan Rogers from Aston Villa, while a number of other additions were made as the club sought to strengthen several areas of the squad.
The spending comes after a disappointing 2025/26 campaign and reflects Chelsea’s determination to bounce back strongly in the new season.
3. Tottenham Hotspur — €366.35 million
Tottenham were also heavily involved in the summer market, spending an estimated €366.35 million on reinforcements.
The North London side made several eye-catching additions, with Sandro Tonali, Savinho and Mateus Fernandes among the players brought in.
Their aggressive approach signals a clear desire to transform the squad and give the club a stronger chance of competing for major honours during the 2026/27 campaign.
4. Newcastle United — €313 million
Newcastle United rounded off the list of clubs spending more than €300 million, with the Magpies investing approximately €313 million in their squad.
The club undertook a major recruitment drive as it looked to strengthen after losing key players to some of Europe’s biggest sides.
The level of investment further underlines Newcastle’s ambition to remain among the Premier League’s leading clubs while also making an impact on the European stage.
5. Aston Villa — €300.2 million
Aston Villa completed the top five after spending roughly €300.2 million on new signings.
Villa faced the challenge of replacing Morgan Rogers following his big-money move to Chelsea but responded by making significant investments of their own, including the signing of Johan Manzambi.
Their spending shows that the club remains serious about competing at the upper end of English football and building a squad capable of sustaining its ambitions across domestic and European competitions.
