Chelsea have completed the signing of experienced midfielder Jordan Henderson, with the former Liverpool captain arriving at Stamford Bridge as a free agent after his contract with Brentford was terminated.
The 36-year-old has signed a deal that will keep him at the West London club until the summer of 2028, adding valuable leadership and top-flight experience to a Chelsea squad largely built around young talent in recent transfer windows.
Henderson became available after mutually agreeing to end his contract with Brentford midway through his two-year spell, paving the way for him to begin a new chapter with the Blues.
Reacting to the move, the England international said the opportunity to join Chelsea was one he could not ignore, pointing to the club’s ambition, manager, and talented squad as key reasons behind his decision.
“Given the size of the club, the manager, who I have great admiration for, and the quality of the players, this was a huge opportunity I couldn’t turn down,” he explained.
Henderson also revealed that he was encouraged by the vision and commitment shown by Chelsea’s ownership, describing their plans for the club as another factor that convinced him to make the switch.

Henderson made his professional debut for Sunderland at Stamford Bridge in 2008 before going on to establish himself as one of Liverpool’s greatest modern captains, winning multiple major honours during his time at Anfield.
Following his departure from Liverpool, the midfielder enjoyed spells with Saudi Pro League side Al-Ettifaq and Dutch giants Ajax before returning to the Premier League with Brentford in 2025. His move to Chelsea now offers another opportunity to compete at the highest level while bringing experience and composure to one of England’s youngest squads.
