Tiwa Savage Opens Up on Private Video Leak, Alleges Ex-Boyfriend Was Behind Incident.

Nigerian music star Tiwa Savage has shared fresh details about the leak of her private video, alleging that her then-boyfriend was responsible and that the incident stemmed from a bet he made with his friends.
The award-winning singer made the revelation during an appearance on the American radio show The Breakfast Club, where she reflected on the emotional impact of the incident that made headlines in 2021.
According to Tiwa Savage, her former partner initially claimed the video had been shared accidentally while he was attempting to save it. However, she later discovered that the circumstances surrounding the leak were very different.
“Even that itself was traumatic because he was my boyfriend, we were in a relationship, and I’m hearing later that it was a bet. So, did you really like me or this was just planned from the beginning,” she said.
The singer admitted that the betrayal was especially painful because it involved someone she trusted. She revealed that the experience has permanently changed how she approaches relationships, explaining that she no longer agrees to meet romantic partners in hotel rooms due to concerns about hidden cameras.
Instead, Savage said she prefers hosting such meetings in places she considers safe and controlled, while also protecting her son from unnecessary public attention.
Speaking about how she handled the controversy, the Afrobeats star admitted she initially tried to mask the pain with humour, even making reference to the incident in her song Loaded. Looking back, however, she believes she never truly processed the emotional trauma at the time.
She said she now accepts that she was a victim of the situation rather than someone responsible for what happened.
Savage also dismissed claims that the leaked video was a publicity stunt designed to promote her career.
“They thought I did it for PR. A lot of people thought, ‘Ah, she’s not relevant anymore and she’s doing this.’ And I’m like, Guys, trust me, if I wanted to do that, I would have had better lighting.”
The singer further disclosed that attempts to pursue legal action over the incident were eventually abandoned because the process became emotionally overwhelming, requiring her to repeatedly relive the painful experience.
