Portable Opens Up on Dropping Out of School, Says He Plans to Complete His Education

Controversial Nigerian singer Portable has shared details about his educational journey, revealing that financial hardship forced him to put his studies on hold but insisting he still hopes to return to school and earn his qualification.
Speaking during an appearance on The Honest Bunch podcast, the street-hop star reflected on his early struggles, explaining that he had to sell sachet water while trying to pursue his education because he lacked financial support.
Portable disclosed that he was a business administration student at Kwara State Polytechnic before his academic journey was interrupted. Despite leaving school, he maintained that completing his education remains one of his personal goals.
The singer also recounted how he was often labelled the “olodo” in his family, a slang expression commonly used to describe someone considered academically weak or uneducated—even though his father ensured that his brothers and sisters received formal education.
According to Portable, life has taken an unexpected turn, as he now shoulders the responsibility of supporting both his siblings and his father despite not completing his studies.
He said:
“I no finish school, the time wey I dey go school, I sell pure water, I no see anybody to sponsor me. I will still finish school, I be student of Kwara Poly where I studied business administration. My papa send my brothers and sisters go school, na me be Olodo but now, na me dey feed all of them. Government no give any of them job. Me wey be the Olodo come dey feed and support my papa. It’s not must that before you finish school before you get it in life. You fit go outside and get it then come back and finish school…”
Portable added that while education remains valuable, success is not tied to a single path. He believes some people find financial success first before eventually returning to complete their studies, a journey he hopes to follow himself.
