BNXN Says NBA Stars Earn More Than Nigerian Musicians, Reveals Album Plans

Afrobeats singer BNXN has shared his thoughts on the long-running debate over whether musicians or athletes are wealthier, arguing that NBA players operate on a financial level that most Nigerian artists cannot match.
The singer, formerly known as Buju, made the remarks during a lengthy livestream with popular streamer Ojo, where the duo reportedly spent several hours discussing music, fame and life behind the scenes.
Drawing from his personal experiences, BNXN explained that his friendships with a number of NBA players have given him a close look at the scale of wealth enjoyed by professional basketball stars.
“I am friends with a few NBA players. These guys have so much money. Nigerian artists don’t even have as much money as them,” he said.
Although he did not mention any of the players by name or provide specific figures, BNXN maintained that the financial gap between top basketball players and many Nigerian musicians is significant. He also noted that footballers belong in the same category when it comes to exceptional earning power.

Away from the money conversation, the Afrobeats star also gave fans an update on his next body of work, revealing that preparations are already underway for a new album.
“I have a camp coming up in like a few months. It’s kind of how I want to record my album. I want to do it in two countries, mainly Ghana and Barbados. I’m choosing Barbados because it’s visa-free,” he said.
While BNXN stopped short of announcing a release date or unveiling the album’s title, his comments suggest the project is beginning to take shape, with recording sessions expected to be split between Ghana and Barbados.
