Ayra Starr Says Music Saved Her From Unemployment, Reflects on Life Before Fame

Award-winning Nigerian singer Ayra Starr has shared an honest reflection on how different her life might have been if music had not worked out for her.
Speaking in a recent interview with EE72, the Mavin Records star opened up about her journey to success, admitting that she struggles to imagine a career path outside music.
According to the singer, she believes she would most likely still be living at home and relying on her mother if she had not broken into the music industry.
Her candid remarks quickly sparked conversations online, with many fans relating to the realities of youth unemployment and the uncertainty that often comes with pursuing a career.
Ayra Starr said:
“If I weren’t doing music, I would literally be unemployed. I don’t even think I would be a content creator because that’s a lot of work. I would just be chilling in my mum’s house and eating my mum’s food.”
The ‘Tornado’ hitmaker also spoke about one of the less glamorous sides of fame, revealing that she sometimes wishes the public knew less about her personal life.
Known for her lively personality and openness during interviews, Ayra admitted that she occasionally shares more than she intends to whenever cameras are around.
The singer explained that she naturally enjoys expressing herself, but there are moments when she looks back and wishes she had kept certain details private.
Since emerging as one of Africa’s biggest music exports, Ayra Starr has built a reputation for her bold personality, chart-topping records, and candid interactions with fans. However, her latest comments offered a glimpse into the alternative reality she believes she might have faced had music not transformed her life.
For the singer, the conversation served as a reminder of how much her career has changed her circumstances—and just how grateful she remains for the opportunity to live out her dream.
Ayra Starr says she’d be completely unemployed right now if she wasn’t making music.
