Nigerian singer Tems has opened up about her perspective on marriage, emphasizing that it should be grounded in growth, purpose, and compatibility rather than purely emotions.

In a recent interview with media personality Angie Martinez, Tems explained that relationships inevitably face challenges, and individuals should be prepared to navigate difficult moments together.
She stressed the importance of choosing a God-fearing partner, noting that accountability and a sense of responsibility are key to sustaining love over a lifetime.
“My partner has to be a God-fearing man. Because why would you truly love me if you don’t have anyone that you answer to? If you’re not accountable to anyone, how could you choose to love and keep loving me for the rest of our lives?
“If you’re the god of your life, why would you love me forever? You could just discard me anytime you want. But marriage is something that makes you better as a human being. It should. It shouldn’t be about only love, it’s about compatibility. It’s about whether a relationship makes you a better person, like it evolves you. Because marriage is a whole another level, it’s supposed to bring out the hard times,” she said.
Tems’ reflections highlight her thoughtful approach to love and partnership, viewing marriage as a journey of mutual growth and personal development rather than a purely emotional connection.
