Former two-time heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua has broken his silence following the tragic car crash in Lagos, Nigeria, that claimed the lives of two of his closest friends.’

The accident occurred on December 29, 2025, when an SUV carrying Joshua and his team collided with a stationary truck. While Joshua sustained only minor injuries, his friends Sina Ghami and Latif “Latz” Ayodele tragically lost their lives.
In a heartfelt video shared on social media, Joshua reflected on the profound loss and thanked fans for their overwhelming support.
“The last time I spoke to you guys was in Miami. We had so many plans to wrap up 2025… We went home to see our families and everything got flipped on its head. That was such an unforeseen circumstance that was out of all of our control,” he said.
Joshua described the bond he shared with Ghami and Ayodele as far deeper than friendship or business.
“They were my brothers, my friends, first and foremost. Then we became business partners, hustlers, generals, everything. We became housemates, living together… You think I’m the big guy, but I was walking with giants. Protected.”
The boxer also addressed the challenges of speaking about grief publicly, acknowledging the scrutiny that comes with being in the public eye.
“I’m not going to sit here and show all of my emotions. I know in today’s day and age it’s easy to analyse people and pass judgment, but I know what I thought, and I know how I feel.”
Joshua vowed to honour his late friends by supporting their families and ensuring their goals are remembered and pursued.
“My goal is to help their families and to help them achieve their goals, even though they may not be here in the physical. I’m going to do what’s right by their family.”
He concluded by expressing gratitude for the global outpouring of love and prayers, acknowledging the millions who have shown support in the wake of the tragedy.
This marks Joshua’s first public statement since the crash, providing a glimpse into his grief, resilience, and commitment to those he lost.
