Nigerian-American rapper Olubowale Victor Akintimehin, popularly known as Wale, has spoken openly about his long-standing relationship with Afrobeats superstar Wizkid, revealing previously unknown details about their early bond.

Wale made the revelations during a recent livestream with Nigerian content creator Carter Efe, where he reflected on his close ties to Nigerian music and artists.
According to the rapper, he played a significant role in Wizkid’s early international journey, stating that he once accommodated the singer in Beverly Hills for an entire summer while they worked on music together.
Wale also disclosed that he took Wizkid to his first-ever BET Awards show, describing the moment as a proud milestone in their friendship.
“I’ve been following Nigerian music for a long time. There are many Nigerian artists I enjoy listening to—some I know personally, some I don’t,” Wale said. “But Wizkid is my boy. We’ve been cool for almost 10 years now. I remember taking him to his first BET Awards. I once housed him in Beverly Hills for a whole summer. We were just writing music and made a lot of songs together, like Drop For Me.”
The rapper emphasized that his relationship with Wizkid remains solid, describing it as genuine and built on mutual respect and shared creative experiences.
Wale’s comments have since sparked reactions online, with many fans praising the rapper for supporting Wizkid during his early days and highlighting the behind-the-scenes friendships that helped shape Afrobeats’ global rise.
“Me and Wizkid have been together for over 10 years now. I remember taking him to his first BET award show. Wizkid is my boy. Phyno and Olamide are my guys too.”
