Fave explains why she made the AI version of Urban Chords’ ‘Intentions’ official
Nigerian Afropop sensation Fave has shed light on why she decided to do something many never saw coming, officially releasing the viral AI-generated version of Intentions, a song originally performed by music duo Urban Chords.
Earlier in the year, social media was buzzing with an AI-made rendition that mirrored Fave’s voice so perfectly that even loyal fans were convinced she had stepped into the studio for it. Instead of dismissing the trend or fighting to get it pulled down, Fave chose a different route: she leaned into the moment.
Reflecting on the unexpected journey, she shared how the fan reaction played a major role. “People kept tagging me and saying the song felt like something I would sing,” she said. “At first, I was shocked because it wasn’t me. But the more I listened, the more I understood why they loved it.”
The wave of excitement made her rethink her entire approach to AI-generated vocals. She realized that beyond the technology, what mattered most was the emotional connection fans felt. “I saw how excited people were, and I didn’t want that excitement to die,” she noted. “Instead of running from it, I decided to own it. If fans already believed in the song, why not make it real?”
Still, the move wasn’t a rash decision. Fave revealed that she reached out to Urban Chords and looped in her team to ensure everything was handled respectfully. “It was important to respect the original creators,” she said. “Urban Chords did something beautiful, and I wanted my involvement to be a collaboration, not confusion.”
Now that the official version is on the way, Fave says her focus is finding harmony between creativity and technology, without losing the soul that makes music meaningful. “AI is here whether we like it or not,” she added. “But if it’s going to use my voice, then I want to guide the narrative and make sure the art still has heart.”
