Nigerian music star Burna Boy has fired back at critics following days of intense backlash over his recent comments and behaviour, taking to Instagram Stories on Wednesday, November 19, 2025, to set the record straight.
In a series of candid slides, the Grammy winner addressed fan conduct, media sensationalism, and the pressures that come with global stardom.

According to Burna Boy, much of the controversy resulted from misinterpretations and online exaggeration.
He clarified the context of his earlier remarks, writing:
“Btw I was joking around with my band about some thing else. Not necessarily this situation and y’all have spun it as usual saying ‘Burna boy doesn’t love his fans.’ If you hate me so much either kill me or leave me alone. I’m fighting my own battles… I love who loves me and respect who respects me.”
He ended the slide with a political call:
“Free Sudan, Free Congo, Free Nigeria.”
Burna Boy also defended his dedication to his craft, stressing that he gives his all on stage, no matter the size or energy of the crowd. But he made it clear that there are limits to how fans should behave.
“I leave my soul on every stage… and I will gladly be cancelled if we are now in a world where you can treat me like a stripper, slap my ass and tell me to keep dancing cuz you throw $100 at me.”
He drew comparisons to everyday professional environments to emphasise his point:
“If you make the pilot uncomfortable in a plane you bought a ticket for, you will be deboarded or arrested… you pay school fees but you will be kicked out of class if you make it uncomfortable for the teacher to do his job.”
Despite the strong tone of his message, Burna Boy offered a conditional apology:
“I sincerely apologise if I’m wrong, I’m not always right but I feel right about this. Anyway I’m just human so fk me.”
He went on to criticise the media and some members of the public for focusing only on negativity:
“They never post any of the good I do in this world but they go wild and viral when they feel I’ve finally ‘fked up’… I’ve seen people who NEVER even acknowledged my existence now posting how ‘This is not cool.’”
Burna Boy’s posts serve as his most direct and unfiltered response yet, revealing his frustration with what he believes are unfair narratives about his relationship with fans and the media.
