American rapper Nicki Minaj is expected to take the global stage on Tuesday as she joins a United Nations (UN) panel in New York to discuss the growing concerns around jihadist violence against Christians in Nigeria.
The development was revealed by Eric Cortellessa, a senior political correspondent with Time, who announced the lineup on X.

Minaj will feature alongside the United States Ambassador to the UN, Michael Waltz, and political strategist Alex Bruesewitz, known for his role as a senior adviser to former U.S. President Donald Trump.
Ambassador Waltz did not hold back his admiration for the rapper, describing her as “not only arguably the greatest female recording artist, but also a principled individual who refuses to remain silent in the face of injustice.”
He went further, saying: “I’m grateful she’s leveraging her massive platform to spotlight the atrocities against Christians in Nigeria, and I look forward to standing with her as we discuss the steps the President and his administration are taking to end the persecution of our Christian brothers and sisters.”
Nicki Minaj, in her usual expressive style, took to social media to show appreciation for the invitation. She wrote:
“Ambassador, I am so grateful to be entrusted with an opportunity of this magnitude. I do not take it for granted. It means more than you know.
“The Barbz & I will never stand down in the face of injustice. We’ve been given our influence by God. There must be a bigger purpose.”
The planned appearance comes shortly after former President Donald Trump claimed that a “Christian genocide” is ongoing in Nigeria, an assertion that later informed the U.S. decision to list Nigeria as a “Country of Particular Concern.”

However, Nigerian authorities continue to reject such characterisations, insisting that the security challenges confronting the nation stem from criminal gangs and not religious persecution.
The Tuesday event is expected to draw considerable global attention, especially as Minaj brings her massive fan base and influence into an issue that has consistently sparked debate at both local and international levels.
