Afrobeats heavyweight Davido has opened up about the one song that still gives him chills every time he performs it, his breakout hit, Dami Duro.
Despite being more than ten years deep in the game, the superstar says that track still makes him feel like a fan all over again.

The revelation came during a recent Q&A session, where Davido got a bit reflective, letting fans in on the emotional bond he still shares with the song that started it all.
Back in 2011, Dami Duro was more than just another club banger it was a statement. Released as the second single off his debut album Omo Baba Olowo: The Genesis, the track captured the bold, unapologetic energy of a young artist ready to take over.
That iconic Yoruba line, “Emi omo baba olowo,” meaning “I am the son of a rich man,” became a nationwide chant of self-belief and ambition. With Davido and Shizzi teaming up on production, the song spread like wildfire, blasting through speakers from Lagos to London and setting Davido firmly on his path to superstardom.

Looking back, Davido admitted that Dami Duro reminds him of simpler days, a time when he was just a dreamer chasing a sound and a vision. “It’s that one song that still gives me the fan feeling,” he said, hinting at how deeply connected he remains to that early chapter of his story.
Over the years, Davido has often revisited his journey in interviews, recalling moments from his father’s initial doubts about his music career to his eventual role in putting Afrobeats on the global map. Yet, his love for Dami Duro is proof that no matter how far he’s come, his roots remain close to his heart.
Even now, more than a decade later, Dami Duro remains a crowd favorite — a track that instantly lights up every stage Davido steps on. For both the fans and the man behind the mic, it’s more than just a hit record; it’s the heartbeat of where the legend began.
