Seun Kuti Fires Back at VeryDarkMan Over NDLEA Arrest Comments

Afrobeats star Seun Kuti has responded to controversial activist VeryDarkMan (VDM) after the latter called on the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) to arrest popular Nigerian artistes who publicly smoke on social media.

In a video that quickly went viral, Seun Kuti aimed at VDM, saying his comments were reckless and misleading. According to the singer, contrary to what many believe, neither he nor Wizkid smokes weed, insisting instead that they use agbo, a traditional herbal concoction.

“Wizkid no dey smoke weed; na agbo him dey take. That’s why you see him complain about back pain now and then,” Seun said jokingly, adding that Davido only smokes cigars “to clear his voice,” while Burna Boy, in his usual playful style, has often said he “only smokes breakfast.”

Seun Kuti cautioned the activist against “casting everybody,” accusing him of making blanket statements that could put artists in danger or misrepresent their lifestyle.

His reaction came after VDM, whose real name is Martins Vincent Otse, criticized the NDLEA for allegedly turning a blind eye to celebrities who openly flaunt cannabis use online.

The activist made his comments following reports that NDLEA operatives had raided a nightclub in Lagos, arresting over 100 people, including club owner Pretty Mike and former BBNaija housemate Tuoyo.

VDM argued that the agency’s actions reflected bias, claiming that while “poor man pikin” are often targeted, celebrities seem to go untouched despite public evidence.

He specifically named Davido, Wizkid, Burna Boy, Zinoleesky, Ruger, and Seyi Vibez, questioning why no arrests had been made.

In response, Seun Kuti dropped what many fans have called a “loaded statement,” saying, “Everyone get where him power reach for this country,” implying that influence often determines who faces consequences.

The comment drew laughter from VeryDarkMan himself, who appeared amused and perhaps understanding of the reality Seun was hinting at.
