Afrobeats queen Tiwa Savage has clarified her recent remarks about being open to becoming a second wife, explaining that her comments were taken out of context and stemmed from emotional frustration rather than genuine intent.

The singer’s initial statement, made during an episode of the American podcast Air Service, sparked widespread online debate after she revealed that most of the men who approach her are either in their 50s or already married.

“If I meet somebody who can really marry me, they are either in their 50s or already married. So, I don’t know. Maybe I can be a second wife. I think so. I could be a second wife,” she said on the podcast.

Following the controversy, Savage took to social media to clarify her position, noting that she was expressing disappointment over her past romantic experiences not endorsing polygamy.

The 45-year-old singer, who was previously married to music executive Tunji ‘Tee Billz’ Balogun, said her experience as a first wife did not guarantee happiness or lasting love.

“I was a first wife, where did that get me? I got married as the only wife but here we are. I’m tired of being heartbroken; maybe I’m getting it wrong. Maybe I should try being a second wife,” she explained.

However, Savage was quick to emphasise that the remark was made out of pain and not a reflection of her true desires.

“It’s not my choice, though. I don’t want to. I wish I could tell my truth, but I will be dragged,” she said.

The Somebody’s Son crooner added that her words were born out of vulnerability, revealing that love and relationships remain complex subjects for her despite years of fame and personal growth.

While Tiwa Savage’s comments have continued to trend online, her clarification sheds light on the emotional undertone behind them a moment of honesty from one of Afrobeats’ most celebrated voices still navigating love, life, and public perception.
