Nigerian rapper Tochukwu Ojogwu, popularly known as Odumodublvck, has shared the fascinating story behind how his unique stage name came to be a name that, interestingly, started as a childhood taunt.

In a recent interview with BET Network, the Declan Rice hitmaker explained that “Odumodu,” which means masquerade, was first used to tease him during his younger days.

“Odumodu means masquerade. So I tried to scare someone, and he called me that name, and I was like, ‘No, don’t call me that,’” he recalled. “You know it’s that name you don’t want to be called.”

What began as a playful nickname soon became permanent, thanks to an encounter involving his mother.

“One day my mom came to visit me in school, and they were like, ‘Yo, Odumodu’s mom is around.’ She’s like, ‘Who’s that?’ And I’m like, ‘That’s what it is.’ Then I started making music,” the rapper recounted with a laugh.

Before settling on his now-iconic moniker, Odumodublvck revealed that he once went by another stage name, one he now considers unoriginal.

“The name I had first was T Flows — whack name. There are probably like a hundred thousand T Flows in the world, but there’s only one Odumodublvck,” he said.

Despite initial ridicule from friends, the rapper stood by his decision to keep the name, believing it set him apart.

“When I told my friends that my name’s going to be Odumodu Blvck, they started laughing. I said, ‘Yes, that’s the point. That’s the name there.’”

Today, Odumodublvck’s once-mocked name has become one of the most recognizable in Nigerian hip-hop, symbolising individuality, resilience, and pride in identity, much like the man himself.
