Zlatan Recounts How He Used His Prize Car to Run Cab Rides for Survival During School Days

Nigerian rapper Omoniyi Temidayo Raphael, popularly known as Zlatan Ibile, has opened up about his humble beginnings and financial struggles during his time as a student, revealing how he once used a prize car he won to work as a cab driver just to afford food.
The Zanku hitmaker shared the story during a live chat with content creator Shanks, recalling how tough life was back in 2014 while he was studying at Moshood Abiola Polytechnic in Abeokuta, Ogun State.
Zlatan had won a brand-new car at the Airtel One Mic talent competition held that year in Abeokuta, a victory that marked his early recognition as a rising star. However, despite the triumph, financial hardship soon forced him to put the vehicle to a more practical use.
“Back in school, when I didn’t have money for food, I’d wait till night and use the car I won that year to run cab from Abeokuta to Shagamu for ₦350,” Zlatan said.
The rapper explained that even though the car symbolized his musical potential, it became a lifeline that helped him survive those challenging student days.
Zlatan, who recently released his third studio album, Symbol of Hope, said the experience taught him resilience and the value of hard work — qualities that continue to shape his music and outlook today.
His story has since inspired many fans online, serving as a reminder that behind his success lies years of persistence, sacrifice, and unwavering belief in his dreams.
