Davido Honours Late Mother with Hostel Dedication at Clifford University

Afrobeats megastar Davido has once again shown his deep sense of family and philanthropy by immortalising his late mother, Dr. Veronica Adeleke, through a newly inaugurated female hostel at Clifford University, Abia State.
The commissioning, which formed part of the university’s 6th convocation ceremony, drew cheers from students, faculty, and fans who gathered to witness the emotional moment.
Accompanied by his 30BG crew and nightlife mogul Cubana Chief Priest, Davido cut the ribbon to officially unveil the Veronica Adeleke Hostel, describing the project as a heartfelt celebration of his mother’s life and impact.
He recounted how her legacy as a teacher, philanthropist, and advocate for education continues to shape his values, artistry, and humanitarian efforts.
During his stirring address, Davido reflected on the determination of young graduates and shared words of inspiration that resonated deeply with the crowd.
“When I looked into the faces of the graduates, I saw the same fire that built me, that hunger to be seen, to turn pain into power,” Davido said. “Talent might open the door, but purpose gives it meaning.”
Adding to the day’s generosity, Cubana Chief Priest announced he would pay the tuition fees of 50 students, a gesture that further elevated the spirit of giving that defined the event.
Clifford University’s Vice Chancellor, Prof. Chimezie Omeonu, praised Davido for his continued commitment to education and for being an inspiration to young Africans striving for excellence.
Taking to his X (formerly Twitter) account after the ceremony, Davido shared his emotions about the dedication, writing:
“My mother, Dr. Veronica Adeleke, believed education and compassion could change lives. This building is a continuation of her purpose, turning love into legacy.”
The occasion ended with the ribbon-cutting ceremony attended by university officials, students, and special guests, a fitting close to a day that celebrated not just music or fame, but legacy, love, and the enduring power of purpose.
