AG Baby Reveals Beyoncé Connection Behind New Song Simile

Afrobeats star Adekunle Gold, popularly known as AG Baby, has revealed a surprising backstory to Simile, one of the standout tracks on his forthcoming album Fuji.
Speaking on Tuesday, September 16, 2025, the singer disclosed that Simile was originally written and recorded for Beyoncé’s 2019 project The Lion King: The Gift.
Although the record never made it onto Beyoncé’s Grammy-nominated body of work, Adekunle Gold decided to breathe new life into the track on Fuji, giving fans access to a song with an unexpected global tie.
The revelation has only heightened anticipation for Adekunle Gold’s sixth studio album, which drops on October 3, 2025.
Describing Fuji as his boldest project yet, Adekunle Gold explained that the album seeks to revive and globalize the indigenous Yoruba Fuji sound. For him, the genre is a return to his roots, a vessel for storytelling, and a reflection of his evolution as an artist.

The body of work is deeply personal, chronicling his experiences over the past five years—including fatherhood, lost friendships, triumphs, and the pain of losing his father. Adekunle Gold has called it his “greatest work yet.”
Fans have already gotten a glimpse of what’s to come through singles like Coco Money and Bobo, both rich in Fuji-inspired rhythms. The upcoming album will also feature Fuji legend K1 De Ultimate, alongside global stars Pharrell Williams and Swae Lee.
By fusing traditional Nigerian sounds with modern production, AG Baby continues to expand the boundaries of Afrobeats while staying grounded in heritage. The story behind Simile now adds yet another layer of intrigue as the countdown to Fuji’s release begins.
