Nigerian Afrobeats rising star FOLA (born Odunlami Afolarin) has officially arrived with his debut album Catharsis—an 11-track project that doubles as both a personal diary and a sonic showcase.
Blending Afrobeats with R&B and street-pop, the album positions FOLA as one of the genre’s most compelling new voices.

Written over the span of a year, Catharsis was crafted as what FOLA calls a healing tool, designed to “mend what life tried to break.”
The album explores love, self-reflection, healing, and growth—delivered through his soulful vocals and vivid storytelling.
The journey begins with the pulsating opener Gokada, setting a lively pace with infectious rhythms and streetwise narratives.
On the other end of the spectrum, songs like Healer dive deep into vulnerability and resilience, while Cruise Control provides a breezy, feel-good contrast.
Closing track It’s Going ties the project together with a celebratory tone, balancing triumph with reflection.
Part of what makes Catharsis stand out is its star-studded lineup of collaborators. Victony lends his signature touch to Golibe, Kizz Daniel brings firepower to Lost—already a chart favorite peaking at No. 3 on the Official TurnTable Top 100—while Gabzy delivers soul on Robbery.
Young Jonn joins for Disco, a high-energy banger built for the dancefloor. Each feature complements FOLA’s sound without overshadowing his voice.

Since its release, Catharsis has been met with critical acclaim and strong fan reception. Tracks like Caricature and Eko have sparked social media chatter for their cultural wit and sharp lyricism, furthering the project’s relevance beyond just music.
With Catharsis, FOLA has delivered more than an album—he’s given listeners a window into his evolution. Both personal and universally relatable, the project positions him as a rising force capable of balancing introspection with mainstream appeal. It’s a debut that not only introduces FOLA’s artistry but also hints at his staying power in the global Afrobeats movement.
