    • Brymo calls out Nigeria’s music heavyweights in blunt new message, urges A-Listers to let new acts grow

Prolific Nigerian singer and songwriter Brymo has stirred controversy after openly criticizing some of the country’s biggest music stars, including Burna Boy and Davido, for what he describes as an overindulgence in remix collaborations with rising artists.

The outspoken artist aired his frustration on Tuesday, August 19, 2025, through a post shared on his Instagram status, a message that quickly went viral across social platforms.

In his blunt address to what he termed “Nigerian mainstream A-listers,” Brymo wrote: “Burna, Davido, and Co., stop jumping on every hit song in a remix, especially releases by newer acts… let other artistes find their own way.”

He went further to question the motive behind such collaborations, claiming they often benefit the established stars more than the emerging ones. “The pretending to be helping them reach higher is a ridiculous watch… stop seeking relevance in the efforts of ones who know little about the business… it’s vile!!” he added.

Brymo’s remarks highlight his concern that remix culture, while seemingly supportive, may stifle the independent growth of new artists. According to him, rather than serving as genuine mentorship, these collaborations could be a strategy for big names to maintain visibility.

The post has ignited discussions among fans and industry watchers about the ethics of remixes in Afrobeats, raising questions about whether such practices uplift or overshadow budding talent. So far, neither Burna Boy nor Davido nor their teams have issued a response.

Brymo, widely recognised for his distinct sound and often unfiltered opinions, has long been an advocate for artistic freedom and fairness in the Nigerian music industry. His latest outburst adds another chapter to his reputation as one of the few voices challenging mainstream industry norms.
