Afrobeats icon Davido has opened up about the heartbreaking loss of his first son, Ifeanyi Adeleke, describing the tragedy as a life-altering experience.

Speaking in an emotional interview with NBC, the singer reflected on how the 2022 incident reshaped his outlook. “It changed my life,” Davido admitted. He recalled a recent conversation with his wife, Chioma, saying, “I’m proud of us.”
The couple, now parents to twins, have found joy again despite the dark chapter. “They’re grown, shouting everywhere, but for us to go through that and be able to bounce back in a major way is something,” he added.

Ifeanyi, born in Atlanta on October 20, 2019, tragically drowned in the family’s Banana Island swimming pool on October 31, 2022, around 6 p.m. The incident sparked nationwide grief, with Lagos State Police confirming his death and questioning eight household staff members during the investigation.
A year later, in October 2023, Davido and Chioma welcomed a boy and a girl via cesarean section in the United States, a moment of renewed hope for the family.
The memory of Ifeanyi was deeply felt at the couple’s lavish Miami wedding in August 2025. Davido honoured his late son with custom cufflinks engraved with his image, while Chioma carried a bouquet adorned with a photo of the child — a tender tribute woven into their day of joy.
