The Federal Government has settled its dispute with Fuji legend Wasiu Ayinde Marshal, better known as K1 De Ultimate, by cutting down his flight suspension and appointing him as an advocate for proper airport security etiquette.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, August 13, 2025, Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development Festus Keyamo confirmed the decision, noting that it formed part of ongoing efforts to curb unruly behavior at Nigerian airports.

The controversy began on August 5 at Abuja’s Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport when KWAM 1 was accused of blocking the movement of a ValueJet aircraft.

The Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) alleged that the singer was in possession of a banned flask suspected to contain alcohol, and that he spilled liquid on security personnel. The incident led to a six-month no-fly sanction and a criminal complaint lodged with the police.

However, after what the government described as “appeals from well-meaning individuals” and the artist’s public show of remorse, the NCAA has reduced the suspension to one month. Under the new arrangement, the aviation authority will partner with KWAM 1 to raise public awareness on acceptable conduct within airports while also withdrawing the criminal charges.

“The NCAA is to reduce his flight ban to a one-month period. FAAN will also work with the music star with a view to engaging him as an ambassador for proper airport security protocol going forward,” the statement read. “Having publicly demonstrated penitence, the NCAA is also to withdraw its criminal complaints against KWAM 1 earlier lodged with the police.”

Keyamo stressed that the leniency was granted on “compassionate grounds” but maintained that the government will not hesitate to enforce aviation safety and security rules. KWAM 1 had recently issued a public apology, explaining that the flask in question contained water for medical purposes rather than alcohol, as alleged by security officials.
