The singer recently garnered widespread applause for awarding cash gifts to several Nigerian students who graduated with first-class honors, a campaign he initiated to celebrate academic excellence and uplift the youth.

The move quickly went viral, earning him praise across social media platforms.

However, things took an unexpected turn when Wema Bank’s digital banking arm, ALAT, referenced the giveaway in a promotional message that appeared to exploit the buzz surrounding Adekunle Gold’s initiative. The message read:

“AG Baby no send you first class gift? AN No wahala, ALAT dey for you. Enjoy up to 70% off your fave brands this weekend via eVouchers on the ALAT app — no be crime say we no get first class.”

The post, which alluded to AG Baby’s alias and his giveaway, sparked online debate and drew the attention of the artist himself.

Taking to X (formerly Twitter), Adekunle Gold directly addressed @wemabank and @alat_ng, condemning their use of his name and hinting at possible legal consequences. He posted:

“Dear @wemabank @alat_ng when this one start? You’ll be hearing from my people.”

As of the time of reporting, Wema Bank has not responded publicly to the backlash or issued an official statement regarding the matter.
