“He’s Always Sick of Me” – Ayra Starr Opens Up About Her Hilarious Bond with Wizkid

Nigerian pop sensation Ayra Starr is giving fans a peek behind the curtain of her friendship with Wizkid, describing the Grammy-winning superstar as a “hilarious and supportive” presence in her life even if he’s sometimes “sick of her” antics.
In a recent interview, the Rush hitmaker offered a candid and playful account of her dynamic with the Afrobeats icon, with whom she recently collaborated on the summer-ready single “Gimme Dat.”
“Wizkid is an amazing friend and an amazing person to be around. I could learn so much from him. He’s hilarious, and we have the same humour so he’s always sick of me because I try to make him laugh or something,” she said with a laugh.
Ayra also recalled their first studio session, admitting she was overwhelmed at the thought of working with one of Afrobeats’ biggest names.
“During my first session, I was panicking because it was ‘Wizkid.’ But now we’ve done our music video together, and I’m older. He’s always telling me how much I’ve grown.”
"Wizkid is just an amazing friend to be around. He is hilarious. He is always sick of me 'cos I'm always trying to make him laugh."

The singer, who’s quickly carving out her place among Nigeria’s musical elite, didn’t hold back her appreciation for the validation that comes from working with such a heavyweight.
“He’s such an amazing artist. And having such an icon working with me shows how much of an amazing artist I am. I had to sneak that in,” she added cheekily.
This heartwarming revelation comes just two months after Wizkid publicly praised Ayra Starr and Tems, calling both women “amazing” in response to a viral comment from rapper Odumodublvck.
From panic to playful banter, Ayra Starr’s evolving relationship with Wizkid underscores not only her artistic growth but also the camaraderie that continues to thrive within Nigeria’s vibrant music scene.
