“Fatherhood Can’t Start on the Road” – Burna Boy Opens Up About Family Plans

Afrobeats heavyweight Damini Ogulu, popularly known as Burna Boy, has opened up about why starting a family isn’t on his immediate radar, despite recently hinting at settling down during his 34th birthday celebration.
Speaking in a candid interview with BBC Radio 1Xtra in London, the Grammy-winning artist explained that while the thought of having children has crossed his mind, the realities of his hectic lifestyle make it impractical for now.
“Yeah, but I don’t want to start that on the road. I’m not planning on quitting tours anytime soon, so I don’t know where to now put that, find a middle ground,” the Higher crooner said.
Burna Boy emphasized that the kind of fatherhood he envisions requires presence, time, and stability, things he believes are incompatible with his demanding tour schedule and global performances.
This comes after the Last Last hitmaker revealed that a conversation with Nigerian businessman Jowizaza had sparked thoughts about settling down. But according to Burna, fatherhood isn’t something to “wing” while living out of suitcases and hopping across continents.
In the same conversation, the African Giant made a surprising revelation about his work-life balance, or lack thereof.
“I haven’t gone on a holiday since I started. One of the reasons is that I don’t have children. So there’s nothing really pulling me to take a break,” he admitted.
While fans may be eager to see a softer, family-oriented side of Burna Boy, the global star made it clear: music still takes centre stage, and he’s not ready to divide his focus yet.
For now, Burna remains fully committed to the road, with fatherhood tucked away for a quieter chapter yet to come.
