Veteran Nigerian music producer ID Cabasa has revealed that while he has worked with many of the artists he once dreamed of producing, Burna Boy remains the one act he still hopes to collaborate with.

In a recent interview on Hip TV, the legendary hitmaker reflected on his decades-long journey in the music industry, naming stars like 9ice, Olamide, and Reminisce as some of the standout artists he’s proud to have worked with. But when asked if there’s anyone left on his wishlist, Cabasa responded without hesitation:

“If there’s anybody I would still want to taste out of my music, it would be Burna.”

His admiration for the Grammy-winning singer underscores Burna Boy’s enduring influence across multiple generations of Nigerian music creatives.

Cabasa also hinted at another artist he enjoys musically but would likely never work with due to what he described as a “nuisance value.”

He declined to name the artist, though many fans speculate that he may have been referring to controversial street-hop act Portable, who is known more for his public antics than studio discipline.

“I like the sound of this particular artist, whom I won’t mention, but it’s his nuisance value I cannot deal with,” he remarked candidly.

As he looked back on his early influences, ID Cabasa credited music legends such as Fela Kuti, King Sunny Ade, Chief Commander Ebenezer Obey, Alhaji Ayinde Barrister, and Chief Ayinla Kollington for shaping his musical ear. He also shared that his time growing up in the Anglican Church deeply nurtured his love for music.

On the production front, he cited Dr. Dre and Scott Storch as global inspirations while also recognising local legends Laolu Akins, Nelson Brown, and OJB Jezreel for impacting his craft.

Through his Coded Tunez imprint, Cabasa played a key role in launching and nurturing the careers of top Nigerian acts like Lord of Ajasa, 9ice, Reminisce, and Olamide—the latter of whom has gone on to become one of the most influential rappers in African music.

Looking ahead, Cabasa announced that he is working on a new project titled ‘Unfinished Business,’ an album that promises to breathe new life into classic Afrobeats records.

He explained that the project would be a reimagining of iconic Nigerian songs, in line with a growing trend that bridges the old and new sounds of Afrobeats.

“The album is more than just nostalgia. It’s a celebration of our roots with a fresh perspective,” he said.

With a storied past and exciting future ahead, ID Cabasa remains a pillar in the Nigerian music scene, blending heritage, innovation, and unrelenting passion for sound.
