Milos Kerkez transfer: Liverpool complete £40m deal for Bournemouth left-back with summer spending to pass £200m

Premier League champions Liverpool have bolstered their defensive ranks with the £40 million acquisition of Bournemouth left-back Milos Kerkez, pushing their summer transfer spend beyond the £200 million mark.
The 21-year-old Hungarian international has signed a five-year contract at Anfield, becoming the latest addition under new head coach Arne Slot.
Kerkez joins a growing list of big-money arrivals, including Jeremie Frimpong, secured for £29.5 million from Bayer Leverkusen, and his teammate Florian Wirtz, whose high-profile move could become a British record at a reported £116 million.

Goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili is also set to officially arrive from Valencia on July 1 in a £29 million deal agreed last August, further solidifying Liverpool’s summer business as one of the most aggressive in the club’s history.
Speaking to Liverpool’s official website following his unveiling, a delighted Kerkez said:
“I’m really happy. It’s a real honour for me, a privilege to come to play for one of the biggest clubs in the world, [the] biggest club in England. I’m just really, really happy and excited.
“After this, I’ll go home and in my hometown enjoy a few days, and then I can’t really wait to come back and put the training kit on and start to train and prepare for the season.
“I’m going to give everything – absolutely everything – to win trophies with the club and to hopefully score some goals at Anfield. I can’t wait to hear the roar. And see you soon.”
Kerkez impressed during his debut Premier League season with Bournemouth, featuring in all 38 matches and contributing two goals and six assists. Liverpool had been monitoring the young left-back for some time, and the club’s interest intensified after former Bournemouth sporting director Richard Hughes, who initially brought Kerkez to England from AZ Alkmaar in 2023 took up the same role at Anfield last year.

Bournemouth, meanwhile, have moved swiftly to fill the void left by Kerkez, signing Adrien Truffert from Rennes earlier in June for an initial £10.1 million fee, potentially rising to £14.3 million with add-ons.
With Kerkez now officially a Red, Liverpool continue to shape a dynamic and youthful squad ahead of the 2025/26 campaign, sending a clear signal of their intent to defend their Premier League crown and challenge for further silverware on all fronts.
