“It Was Transformational” — Ayra Starr Opens Up About Her Acting Debut in Children of Blood and Bone

Nigerian music sensation Ayra Starr is stepping into new territory and the spotlight away from the microphone as she prepares to make her on-screen acting debut in the highly anticipated film Children of Blood and Bone.
In a candid sit-down with CBS Mornings, the Rush hitmaker reflected on her transition from music to acting, revealing that while the desire had always been there, fear held her back for years.
“I’ve always been shy when it comes to acting, but this is the first time in my life that I’ve been on camera and I’m not singing,” she shared.
Ayra Starr described her first experience on set as an intense but inspiring journey, one filled with growth, learning, and moments of awe. She credited not only the A-list cast but also the younger actors on set for helping her discover a new side of herself.
“I learned so much from everybody on set, not even just the greats. Even the 16-year-olds, the 14-year-olds on set, it was so inspiring just watching them,” she said.
The movie, based on Nigerian-American author Tomi Adeyemi’s bestselling fantasy novel, features a stellar cast including Idris Elba, Viola Davis, and Cynthia Erivo names Ayra Starr says made the entire experience feel like an acting masterclass.
“Working with actors of that calibre taught me so much. It wasn’t just fun, it was transformational,” she added.
Children of Blood and Bone marks Ayra Starr’s debut appearance in a non-musical film role, a career-defining moment fans across the globe are eagerly looking forward to. As she continues to break boundaries in entertainment, the Mavin Records star is proving once again that her artistry knows no limits.
