Nigerian music sensation Ayra Starr has taken a stand against the growing wave of online bullying and criticism directed at her, voicing her frustration in a candid and emotionally charged post on social media.

On Monday, June 16, 2025, the Commas hitmaker shared a strongly worded message on her official X (formerly Twitter) account, addressing what she described as deliberate targeting and constant misunderstanding by online trolls.

“There’s nothing I can do nor say to people that intentionally want to bully and misunderstand me every time. You’ve found a scapegoat abi? Focus on issues that actually matter and leave me TF alone,” she tweeted.

While Ayra Starr didn’t point to a specific incident, her message comes in the wake of online backlash accusing her and other young celebrities of silence during recent national tragedies, most notably the Benue State massacre, which left over 200 people dead.

Critics argued that influencers and stars should use their platforms to advocate for justice and national unity.

However, many fans and fellow entertainers have since rallied behind Ayra, defending her right to set boundaries and emphasizing the mental health toll that public figures often endure under constant digital scrutiny.

The episode has reignited wider discussions about celebrity responsibility, cyberbullying, and the unfair expectations placed on young women in the spotlight, especially in an era where social media visibility often comes with relentless policing of behavior.

Ayra Starr, signed to Mavin Records, has quickly risen to global fame with her bold lyrics, genre-blending sound, and fashion-forward image. But as this incident highlights, navigating fame in the digital age is not without its costs.

Her post has since gone viral, sparking debates across social platforms about empathy, influence, and the pressures of celebrity culture in Nigeria and beyond.
