Fast-rising Nigerian singer Brown Joel has clarified the nature of his relationship with the fellow artists behind the viral hit “Ogechi,” affirming that they are not a music group—just friends making music.

In a candid video shared on social media, Brown Joel addressed growing assumptions that the success of Ogechi meant the collaborators were officially a crew or collective.

“We’re not a group. We’re friends and individual artists. There’s no contract binding us as a crew,” he said, shutting down speculation.

The singer also used the opportunity to critique the industry’s increasing obsession with streaming numbers, subtly reminding fans and artists alike of what truly matters: genuine connection with listeners.

“When you get to a concert, real humans will sing for you. Not digital numbers,” he added.

Despite the massive popularity of Ogechi, Brown Joel made it clear that he and his co-creators are charting their paths — united by friendship and creativity, but not by any formal arrangement.

With this statement, Brown Joel is not only asserting his independence but also spotlighting a refreshing perspective in an industry often dominated by numbers and image.
