Nigerian singer Spyro is not holding back when it comes to calling out what he sees as a disturbing trend among the rich—an aversion to paying for services rendered.

In a fiery rant on his Instagram Story, the Who’s Your Guy crooner blasted billionaires and wealthy individuals for always wanting freebies, especially from creatives. Spyro, who has had his fair share of industry drama, made it clear that he is not one to be shortchanged.

“The people that owe the most are the RICH,” he wrote. “Always wanting free things, especially your so-called billionaires. They can spend hundreds of millions on women, but when it comes to paying for value tendered, they begin to misbehave.”

    He continued with a warning:

“Sha don’t bring it near me o, I worked really hard to be here and I ain’t poor. So if you want my services, you pay my price. Simple.”

This isn’t Spyro’s first time airing grievances publicly. Earlier this year, he called out music executive Ubi Franklin, accusing him of owing $5,000 for a performance in Ghana. Ubi, in turn, claimed that Spyro owed him—specifically a 10% commission from a car deal he facilitated.

Spyro clapped back, flaunting his wealth and asserting that he owes his success to God, not to commissions or industry gatekeepers.

The singer also aimed former label boss Paulo Okoye, claiming that he was forced to take out personal loans during his time with the label due to a lack of financial support.

Paulo swiftly debunked those claims, producing receipts that showed ₦12 million spent on Spyro, while stating he “never made a kobo” from the artist.

Spyro’s message is clear: respect his hustle or steer clear. As tensions grow between emerging artists and wealthy industry stakeholders, his story is shining a light on a much bigger conversation about value, respect, and power dynamics in Nigerian music.
