Nigerian Afrobeats sensation Rema has been featured on Rolling Stone’s prestigious Future of Music cover, further solidifying his status as a global trailblazer in the genre.

At just 24 years old, Rema has already made history by earning a Grammy nomination for Best Global Music Album, joining the ranks of Burna Boy, Wizkid, Davido, and Tems. Notably, he is the youngest among them to achieve this milestone, highlighting his rapid rise and influence in the global music scene.

In his Rolling Stone interview, Rema reflected on his journey, acknowledging both his struggles and triumphs.

“I’m trying to put my chest out so that when the next person from that city comes up, he should be able to stand his ground just as much.”

Rema’s impact extends beyond his hometown of Benin City, Nigeria, as he continues to reshape the sound of Afrobeats. His genre-blending artistry—drawing from hip-hop, rock, and gospel—has set him apart.

His record-breaking hit “Calm Down,” which became the first song by an African lead artist to surpass a billion streams on Spotify, played a crucial role in pushing Afrobeats further into the global mainstream.

Beyond his music, Rema’s story is one of resilience. He has overcome personal tragedies, including the loss of his father and brother, as well as financial hardships on his way to stardom.

Now, as a Grammy-nominated artist and cultural icon, Rema is embracing his role as a pioneer, inspiring the next generation of African artists to dream bigger and reach further.
