South African music star Tyla has reached a groundbreaking milestone, tying the record for the longest-charting album by an African female artist on the Billboard World Albums chart.

Her self-titled debut album, TYLA, has now spent an incredible 50 weeks on the chart, matching the legendary Cesária Évora, who set the record nearly four decades ago with her 1995 album, Cesária Évora, which lasted 66 weeks.

The album’s success has been largely driven by its breakout hit, Water, which became a global sensation, peaking at number 7 on the Billboard Hot 100 and earning multi-platinum certifications across multiple countries.

Beyond Water, the album, has been widely praised for its genre-blending brilliance, seamlessly incorporating Amapiano, R&B, and Afrobeats. Critics have lauded Tyla’s versatility, with Pitchfork commending her “savvy” vocal delivery and Rolling Stone hailing her as a powerful ambassador for Amapiano on the global stage.

This achievement is a historic moment for African female artists, underscoring Tyla’s meteoric rise in the global music industry. With TYLA still charting strong, all eyes are on the young star as she continues to break barriers and set new records.
