Wizkid calls Fuji icon Wasiu Ayinde his favourite musician

Afrobeats sensation and Grammy-winning artist Wizkid has revealed that legendary Fuji maestro Wasiu Ayinde, popularly known as K1 De Ultimate, is his all-time favorite musician.
This heartwarming revelation came during a recent visit to K1’s Ijebu Ode residence, where Wizkid offered his condolences following the loss of the Fuji star’s mother. When asked who his favorite artist was—aside from himself—Wizkid didn’t hesitate, declaring Wasiu Ayinde as “my favorite artist in the universe.”
The ‘Essence‘ hitmaker praised the Fuji legend for his ability to inspire generations, including his own. “K1 has done so much with his music, touching lives and uniting people,” Wizkid said.

His admiration underscores Wasiu Ayinde’s enduring influence, with a career spanning over four decades and a reputation as a pioneer of the Fuji genre.
Wizkid and K1 share a bond that extends beyond mutual respect. The Fuji icon performed at the star-studded burial ceremony for Wizkid’s mother in 2024, and their connection continues to flourish.
In fact, Wizkid honored K1 by sampling part of his performance on “Morayo,” the opening track of Wizkid’s recently released sixth album.
During his candid chat with K1’s children, Wizkid also revealed his current favorite car: the luxurious McLaren 750S, a recent addition to his collection, valued at over ₦500 million.

Since returning to Nigeria in December 2024, Wizkid has made several public appearances, delighting fans with surprise performances at Olamide’s Flytime Concert, Nativeland Festival, and the Oando End-of-Year Party, which also featured Afrobeats heavyweights Davido and Burna Boy.
Wizkid’s acknowledgment of K1 De Ultimate as his favorite artist is a testament to the legend’s impact on Nigerian music.
It also highlights how artists across generations continue to inspire one another, bridging the gap between traditional and contemporary sounds.
From the heartfelt tribute in “Morayo” to this memorable visit, Wizkid proves once again that his admiration for K1 goes beyond words—it’s a genuine celebration of an enduring legacy.
