I don’t like my smartphone, I prefer to live in the world- Tems
Nigeria’s beloved introverted superstar Tems shared her candid thoughts on technology, personal growth, and staying authentic in a world of constant change.
Featured on the cover of Germany’s Glamour magazine, the Afrobeats sensation humorously admitted she’s not a fan of smartphones, preferring to embrace life as it unfolds.
“I don’t like my smartphone anyway,” Tems confessed. “I prefer to live in the world and have experiences. If I have even the smallest excuse to leave my phone in the drawer, I’ll take it every time. It’s both my management and my family, especially my mother and brother, that keep me grounded.”
The Me and You singer emphasized the importance of mindfulness, adding, “Ultimately, you have to manage to stay present, be aware of yourself, and take care of yourself. That’s the only way you can grow, constantly learn new ways of looking at life, and reassess things. I wouldn’t change a single thing about my life.”
Reflecting on her career beginnings, Tems admitted she was initially naive. “I don’t want to lie—I was very naive at the beginning of my career. I just wanted to make good art. But I had to learn how to navigate the music business in a healthy way,” she shared.
Tems also highlighted the importance of self-awareness and authenticity, both in music and beyond. “You won’t get far in the world if you don’t know who you are. That’s simply the most sustainable path through life—not just in music, but in any industry. I believe your authentic self will attract people.”
With her grounded approach and artistic integrity, Tems continues to inspire fans worldwide while staying true to her roots.
