DMW Boss Reflects on His Father’s Faith, Its Influence on Overcoming Life’s Challenges
Nigerian music superstar Davido opened up about how the teachings of his father, particularly his strong Christian faith, have been instrumental in helping him overcome life’s toughest challenges.
During a podcast interview with ‘Rollingout,’ the DMW boss reflected on his Christian upbringing and the influence his father, a successful businessman and elder in the church, had on his personal and professional life.
Davido credited his father’s religious values for guiding him through difficult times. Growing up as a member of the Seventh-day Adventist Church and attending a Christian college, he learned the importance of faith in facing life’s trials.
In his own words, Davido shared, “My dad is very successful, but he’s an elder in the church. I grew up as a member of the Seventh-day Adventist Church. I attended a Christian college.”
He went on to explain how his father’s teachings helped him navigate personal struggles, particularly during a time of grief and hardship. “I overcame a lot of challenges because of my dad. Initially, I did not understand, but now I’ve come to the realization. I was angry. Sometimes, I was like, ‘Why do bad things happen to good people?’ And my dad told me that you can’t question God.”
Davido elaborated on how these lessons came to make sense over time, especially after the devastating loss of his son, Ifeanyi. “I was like, ‘What do you mean you can’t question God?’ And then a year later [after the death of my son, Ifeanyi], we had twins, the biggest album of my career came, and my first Grammy nominations came. Then it started to make sense. People go through different challenges, but just know that God has your back,” he added.
“My Dad taught me that you can’t question God ever.”
