Nicki Minaj Shares Inspiration Behind Davido’s Collaboration on ‘If It’s Okay’
Nicki Minaj has opened up about the creative process behind her collaboration with Nigerian superstar Davido on the track ‘If It’s Okay,’ a standout song from her newly released ‘The Pinkprint (Tenth Anniversary Edition).’
In a candid social media exchange, Nicki revealed her intention to merge her signature hip-hop sound with the vibrant rhythms of Afrobeats.
She described Davido as the perfect choice to infuse the track with his catchy melodies and lyrical expertise, praising him as “an incredible writer and melody maker.”
Reflecting on their artistic connection, Nicki highlighted the mutual respect that fuels their collaborations. “It’s always a pleasure working with him because of our mutual respect for one another,” she shared.
She further noted that inviting Davido to the project helped elevate the song’s Afrobeat tempo, bringing a fresh and dynamic energy to the track.
When a fan asked about her decision to feature Davido, Nicki replied: “That man is an incredible writer & melody maker. I asked him to be a part of it to bring out the Afro beats tempo/feeling in it a bit more. Nigeria to the world.”
‘If It’s Okay‘ also features contributions from French DJ and producer David Guetta, adding a global dimension to the track.
