Stop chasing numbers – Kizz Daniel tells colleagues
Nigerian singer Kizz Daniel has shared his perspective on the pursuit of chart-topping songs, urging his colleagues to stop fixating on securing number-one spots on streaming platforms.
In a recent post, the Afrobeats star emphasized that artists should prioritize perfecting their craft rather than chasing algorithm-driven numbers. He pointed out that the metrics for success on different platforms do not always align, suggesting that artists should not get too caught up in the streaming race.
“Leave social media algorithms, focus on your craft. Have you ever heard of a guy called Killer Mike? Guess not… 4 times Grammy winner,” he said. “Stop chasing number 1 song, it’s meh now – everything can be controlled… Most of those songs’ numbers don’t correlate on other platforms… check.”

Kizz Daniel also clarified his stance on the use of bots to boost streaming numbers. He acknowledged it as a valid marketing strategy, but argued that it’s more appropriate for emerging artists rather than established acts.
His advice wasn’t meant to criticize fellow musicians but to encourage rising talents to release their music without fear of not being immediately recognized on streaming platforms.
“Farming isn’t a crime, it’s marketing… for placement and all… But it’s for those who have the money,” he added. “We ain’t shading anybody here before you start, just tryna push the new generation to drop those hidden gems… I’ve learned.”
Kizz Daniel’s message serves as a reminder to focus on authentic artistry and the long-term vision rather than getting distracted by the pressure of immediate success on digital platforms.
