Wizkid breaks own record on Spotify with new track ‘Kese Dance’
Nigerian Afrobeats icon Ayodeji Balogun, popularly known as Wizkid, has shattered records with his latest release, Kese (Dance).
The song has set a new benchmark for Spotify Nigeria, amassing an unprecedented 1.57 million streams on its opening day, surpassing the previous record of 1.016 million streams held by his Brent Faiyaz collaboration, Piece Of My Heart.
Globally, Kese (Dance) achieved a remarkable milestone, earning 2.753 million streams on Spotify, making it the biggest opening day for an African song on the platform.
The track serves as one of the lead singles from Wizkid’s forthcoming album, Morayo, set to drop later this month. The project is a deeply personal one, as Wizkid has dedicated it to his late mother, Mrs Morayo Jane Balogun, honouring her memory and influence on his life.
Fans, known as Wizkid FC, have taken to social media to celebrate the historic achievement, praising the Essence crooner’s unwavering consistency and ability to innovate while connecting with audiences worldwide.
With Kese (Dance), Wizkid has once again raised the bar for African music on the global stage, cementing his status as one of the most influential artists of his generation.
