Burna Boy makes Spotify history with record-breaking albums
In a remarkable achievement, award-winning artist Burna Boy has made history by becoming the first Nigerian musician to surpass 1 billion Spotify streams with two separate albums.
This milestone was reached as his 2019 album ‘African Giant‘ joined his sixth album, ‘Love, Damini,’ which currently boasts 1.3 billion streams on the platform.
Released in 2019, ‘African Giant‘ solidified Burna Boy’s position as a global icon after his breakout hit “YE” from the 2018 album ‘Outside‘ captivated audiences worldwide. ‘
African Giant‘ delivered some of Burna Boy’s most memorable tracks, including “On The Low” and “Gbona,” which have both gone platinum in France. The album also featured hits like “Anybody,” “Dangote,” “Omo,” “Killin Dem” with Zlatan, and “Gum Body” featuring Jorja Smith.
With ‘African Giant‘ reaching 1 billion streams, Burna Boy joins an elite club of African musicians breaking barriers internationally. The album’s top streaming song, “On The Low,” has amassed 304 million streams, followed by “Gbona” with 185 million and “Anybody” with 90 million streams.
‘Love, Damini,‘ Burna Boy’s most commercially successful album, features global chart-toppers like “Last Last,” which has over 451 million streams, and “For Your Hand” with Ed Sheeran, which has 289 million streams. The 2022 release of Love, Damini propelled Burna Boy even further into the international spotlight, cementing his reputation as a leader in Afro-fusion music.
With both ‘African Giant’ and ‘Love, Damini‘ surpassing the billion-stream mark, Burna Boy continues to blaze a trail for Nigerian and African music on the global stage, reinforcing his role as one of the continent’s most influential musical exports.
