Ruben Amorim’s potential Manchester United start dates amid delays in appointing new boss
Manchester United fans will need to be patient, as Sporting CP manager Ruben Amorim is expected to stay with his current club until mid-November before officially taking over at Old Trafford.
United have agreed to trigger Amorim’s €10 million (£8.3 million) release clause, but the timing of his move has been a point of negotiation between the clubs.
According to The Athletic, Amorim’s contract with Sporting includes a 30-day notice period, and while Sporting initially demanded an extra €5 million (£4.2 million) for an immediate release, United managed to negotiate this down to an additional €1 million (£840,000).
Under the agreement, Amorim will remain in charge of Sporting until the November international break, with his final game expected to be against Braga on November 10.
If everything proceeds as planned, Amorim will use the international break to settle in at United, with his debut expected to be in an away match against Ipswich Town on November 24.
Following Sporting CP’s recent win, manager Ruben Amorim has suggested he’ll remain in charge for their Friday fixture against Estrela da Amadora, signalling he may not join Manchester United in time for their upcoming clash with Chelsea.
Although United triggered Amorim’s £8.3 million release clause on Tuesday—starting a 30-day notice period—Sporting appears set on keeping Amorim until mid-November.
Portuguese outlet O Jogo reports, however, that Sporting may consider an early release during the international break, as it would allow them to smoothly transition to a new head coach.
Sporting’s B-team coach, Joao Pereira, is reportedly the club’s favored candidate to replace Amorim. Meanwhile, United’s agreement to cover the costs of Amorim’s backroom staff, which could double the initial payout, seems unaffected by this notice period.
