Tiwa Savage opens up on balancing motherhood & music stardom
Nigerian music icon Tiwa Savage shared a heartfelt perspective on balancing her roles as a global superstar and a dedicated mother.
The Afrobeats star, set to release a new album in 2025, has been busy promoting her latest single, ‘Forgiveness,’ her second release of 2024 after the success of her acclaimed ‘Water & Garri‘ project.
As anticipation builds for her upcoming album, Tiwa gave fans a closer look into her life during an interview with media personality Tacha on COOL FM’s ‘The Big Friday Show.’
In the interview, Tiwa discussed the unique challenges of being a single mother while managing a thriving music career. She spoke about raising her son, Jamil, and emphasized the invaluable role her mother and support system play.
“It truly takes a village,” she shared. “As a single mother, I lean heavily on my mum—she’s been an incredible support. We also have a nanny who’s been with us since Jamil was just three months old, and now he’s nine. She’s practically family.”
Tiwa also expressed gratitude for Jamil’s godmothers, who help out when she’s on tour. Reflecting on the continuous nature of motherhood, she noted, “Motherhood doesn’t end when kids grow up. My mum still cares for me, reminding me to eat or drink water and even calling if she sees something concerning online. Our role as mothers never truly ends.”
She continued, “As women, I think our superpower lies in juggling multiple roles. I can be both a full-time mum and a full-time career woman.”
