Wizkid receives royal welcome in Dominican Republic ahead of concert as Indigenous drummers gather at airport
Afrobeats superstar Wizkid received a warm welcome in the Dominican Republic as he prepared for his headlining performance at the World Creole Music Festival.
Videos of his arrival at the airport have gone viral, featuring a traditional troupe of drummers dressed in cultural attire, providing a vibrant welcome for the artist.
The festival, taking place from October 25 to 27, 2024, at the Windsor Park Sports Stadium, is set to feature an exciting lineup, with Wizkid as the main attraction.
This isn’t Wizkid’s first trip to the Dominican Republic; back in 2016, he collaborated with Tinie Tempah to film the music video for their hit song ‘Mamacita’ on the island.
His enthusiastic reception underscores his global appeal and the rising influence of Afrobeats music.
Fans are buzzing with anticipation, eagerly looking forward to Wizkid’s performance at the festival.

In addition, Wizkid’s first lead track of 2024, “Piece of My Heart” achieved an unprecedented milestone on the Spotify Nigeria chart.
After just 24 hours of tracking, the song garnered over 1 million streams, becoming the most-streamed song in a single day on the platform’s Top Songs daily chart.
This broke the previous record held by Wizkid and Asake’s collaboration, “MMS,” which amassed 870,000 streams, surpassing Wizkid’s earlier track “IDK” featuring Zlatan.
In addition to its success in Nigeria, “Piece of My Heart” also made a significant impact globally, entering the Spotify Top Songs Daily chart with over 1.7 million streams.
