Court approves substituted service on witnesses in Mohbad’s death inquest

A Magistrate Court in Ikorodu, Lagos, has granted permission for substituted service on key witnesses in the ongoing inquest into the death of singer Ilerioluwa Aloba, popularly known as Mohbad.

Magistrate T. A. Sotobi has authorized Mohbad’s father, Joseph Aloba, to serve witness summons to relevant individuals through social media platforms and reputable national newspapers.

This decision enables the family’s legal team to reach additional witnesses who may have information about Mohbad’s death. Notable figures such as Azeez Fashola (aka Naira Marley), Samson Eletu (aka Sam Larry), and others close to the late singer are among those the summons will target.

Mohbad’s death on September 12, 2023, at the age of 27, sent shockwaves through the music industry. He is survived by his wife, Wunmi Aloba, and their young son, Liam.

The inquest seeks to uncover the circumstances surrounding Mohbad’s passing, and the court’s approval for substituted service is a significant step forward in the family’s pursuit of justice.

The widow of the late Nigerian singer Mohbad, Wunmi, has made an earnest appeal to fans and supporters to cease any negative commentary about her late husband.

On August 18, 2024, Wunmi took to her Instagram story to address the ongoing controversies and accusations surrounding Mohbad’s death. In her heartfelt message, she expressed her gratitude for the support she has received during this challenging period.

“I want to express my deepest gratitude to each of you for standing by me during this difficult time,” Wunmi wrote. “As many of you know, I have faced a great deal of despicable and false accusations from various sources—family, friends, and even strangers.”

Wunmi emphasized her decision to pursue justice through legal means rather than engaging in public disputes on social media. “Despite the pain, I have chosen to accept this unfortunate situation as a part of my journey. I will not engage in public debates or counter the lies being spread about me. My focus is on defending my truth in court, not on social media. However, I must speak up on behalf of Ilerioluwa, who is no longer here to defend himself.”
